My Trail Online: What Stays
1. What your child learns and why
Your child practises choosing what to keep private in a fictional post. The central idea is that shared content can be copied and may stay. The activity uses ready-made labels; your child enters no information.
2. Three questions for dinner
- What did Mila want to show?
- Which detail would you keep private, and why?
- What question did you choose to ask yourself before sharing?
3. 10 minutes together, no screen — the postcard test
- Draw a postcard with a made-up picture and greeting, without personal details.
- Ask: “Would I be happy if the whole street read this?” Let your child choose what to change.
- Make a paper copy of the drawing. Put the first postcard away and notice that the copy remains. Your child shows their sentence: “Before I share, I ask myself: ...”
4. What success looks like
Your child suggests hiding personal details and explains in their own words why they review a post before sharing.
5. Common difficulties
“If I delete it, everything disappears” → return to the paper copy. “We must never share anything” → suggest a drawing with no personal notes. Listen to their choices without threats.
6. Safety
Use made-up examples only. Do not open real accounts or publish the postcard. If something scares you, tell a grown-up you trust.

You do not need to know the answers. Say: “Let’s think it through together.”
