Mine and Ours
1. What your child learns and why
Your child learns that there is a sign next to a camera, before the entrance and at eye level, and that it says who looks after the camera and why. They learn that in toilets, saunas, doctors' rooms and other people's homes people expect not to be watched, and that a home camera looks only at its own place — not the street and not the neighbours. The frame is respect, not fear.
2. Three questions for dinner
- “Did you see a camera sign today? Where was it?”
- “Why is there no camera in the doctor's room?” (A check-up is only between the doctor and the person.)
- “If we had a camera, which way would you point it?”
3. 15 minutes together, no screen — a walk of signs
- Your child draws their own sign: a camera symbol and three lines — “A camera is watching here”, “Looked after by”, “Why”.
- Walk around the neighbourhood and count the camera signs. Do they hang before the entrance? Are they at eye level?
- At home, compare the drawing with the real signs.
4. What success looks like
- Your child says what one sign says and why it is before the entrance.
- They name at least two places where a camera does not belong.
5. Common difficulties
- Wants to film other children “for security” → “Nobody films others without asking. Adults look after safety.”
- Worries about being watched everywhere → “Cameras look after entrances and shared places. Some places are only yours.”
Say: “You are a sign maker — you tell people before they go in.” Talk about respect, not about spies and burglars.
6. Safety
Your child does not film other children or people without permission. If you have a home camera, tell your child where it looks and why; a camera looks at its own place, not the street and the neighbours. In Bulgaria, questions and complaints about personal data go to the Commission for Personal Data Protection (cpdp.bg).
7. Where to go next
Next lesson: DB-PZ-07 “The Centre That Never Sleeps”. Previous: DB-PZ-05 “Key, Code, Card”.
You don't need to know the answer. Say: “Let's find out together.”
