Project: The Smart Classroom
1. What your child learns and why
Your child brings what they learned in the series into one plan: an alarm on the ceiling, an “Exit” sign, a scheme, a way out, a meeting point and roles in the group. The learning is in making it and explaining it to others. The plan is for learning — the school's official plan always comes first. The aim is confidence: “I know what to do and I can say it.”
2. Three questions for dinner
- “Which part of the plan is yours? Tell me about it.”
- “If the first way is closed, where is the second?”
- “How will you make the plan work for everyone in the class?”
3. No screen — presentation and assessment without a label
- The children present the plan: each says one sentence about their part.
- Instead of a grade, give descriptive feedback on three questions: Does the plan have all the parts (alarm, exit, route, meeting point, roles)? Can the child explain it? Did they work together?
- Finish with “What would you add next time?” — without comparing groups.
4. What success looks like
- The plan has at least five parts and three roles.
- Your child explains their part and suggests a second way.
5. Common difficulties
- Wants all the roles at once, or none → “You can choose one — or just watch this time.”
- Asks “but what if…” with worry → say calmly: “That is why we make a plan and practise — so we know what to do.” Worry is a reason to talk with you, not for more rules.
Say: “You made a plan that others can use.” Praise the effort and the explanation, not the “best” plan.
6. Safety
No experiments with fire or smoke. Children do not touch real alarms, alarm buttons or fire extinguishers. The route is walked only with the teacher. Bulgarian schools hold an evacuation drill at least twice a year (Ordinance No. 8121з-647, art. 11) — the project is good preparation for it. In a real emergency, adults call 112.
7. Where to go next
This is the last lesson of “The Guardians”. Previous: DB-PZ-07 “The Centre That Never Sleeps”. Next: back to the start of the library — DB-VK-01 “What's Inside a Computer?”.
You don't need to know the answer. Say: “Let's find out together.”
