My Face, My Rights
1. What your child learns and why
Your child learns that a face is personal information and that when they are filmed they have rights: to know (the sign), to see the recording of themselves, to ask for erasure, to object and to tell an adult. Your child uses them together with you. The aim is confidence, not worry.
2. Three questions for dinner
- “Did you see a camera sign today? What did it say?”
- “If you want to see a recording of you, what will we do together?”
- “Do you ask your friends before you post their photo?”
3. If you want a recording — how it works
- Write a short letter to whoever is responsible for the camera (the sign says who) — on paper or by e-mail, in the way they have set out.
- Say roughly when you were there and how they should reply. As a rule the answer comes within one month and is free; other people in the picture are blurred.
- If there is no answer or you disagree, you can complain to the Commission for Personal Data Protection (cpdp.bg).
4. What success looks like
- Your child says the five steps in their own words.
- Your child says they take them together with you.
5. Common difficulties
- Wants to “hide” their face from all cameras → “Cameras at entrances are allowed with a sign. What matters is knowing our rights and that there is no filming where it should not happen.”
- Worries about “being watched” → listen; name the places that are only private (toilet, home) and say that cameras do not belong there.
Say: “Your face is yours. If something bothers you, tell me and we will ask together.”
6. Safety
Children do not enter real data anywhere — the letter in the lesson is a game. A parent writes any real letter. The legal parts of the lesson were checked against the GDPR, the European regulators' guidelines and the EU AI Act, but are awaiting a lawyer's review.
7. Where to go next
Next lesson: DB-PZ-10 “Smart Devices at Home”. Previous: DB-PZ-08 “Project: The Smart Classroom”. The game: kagami.bg/en/deca/igri/pazitelite/ (levels 27–30).
You don't need to know the answer. Say: “Let's find out together.”
