Fire or Quake: What I Do

Track: The Guardians · Level: Tinkerer · Ages 7–13 · Link: lessons DB-PZ-04, DB-PZ-07 and DB-PZ-11
⏱ lesson 15 min on screen + 15 min drill · 🧺 a blanket, paper, pencils

1. What your child learns and why

Your child learns the habits on the way out of a fire (from the UK Home Office leaflet “Fire safety in the home”) and what to do during and after an earthquake (from FEMA and New Zealand Civil Defence). The aim is calm and readiness, not fear.

2. Three questions for dinner

3. 15 minutes together — the family plan

  1. Draw your home and two ways out of every room. Door and window keys go where everyone knows.
  2. Practise: low under a blanket; the back of the hand near a cool door; Stop, Drop and Roll.
  3. Choose a meeting point outside. Close inside doors at night and test the smoke alarm once a month.

4. What success looks like

5. Common difficulties

Say: “You know what to do — that is the best protection.”

6. Safety

No real fire, candles or smoke. The advice is from the UK Home Office (Fire safety in the home), FEMA (ready.gov) and New Zealand Civil Defence; at school, follow the school's evacuation plan. In danger — 112.

Who to contact (Bulgaria): 116 111 · 124 123 (safenet.bg) · 112

7. Where to go next

This is the last lesson of “The Guardians”. Previous: DB-PZ-11 “The Siren and the Message to Everyone”. The game: kagami.bg/en/deca/igri/pazitelite/ (levels 47–49).

You don't need to know the answer. Say: “Let's find out together.”
